My love of music began in childhood, experimenting with melodies on my grandmother's antique piano. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong passion for piano and sharing the joy of music with others.
I believe every child can learn to play the piano when they feel supported, encouraged, and inspired. My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students build confidence, develop strong musical skills, and discover the joy of making music. Every lesson is personalized to meet each student's unique interests, goals, and learning style.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic approach that nurtures creativity, perseverance, problem-solving, and self-expression alongside musical growth. I encourage students to embrace challenges, celebrate their successes, and understand that mistakes are a valuable part of learning.
As both an elementary educator and piano teacher, I bring a deep understanding of how children learn best. I strive to make lessons engaging, encouraging, and fun while helping students develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
My musical journey began in Hong Kong with a passion for piano that led me to achieve ABRSM Level 8 certificate. During my undergraduate years at the University of Idaho, where I pursued a degree in Music Education, I concurrently started teaching piano privately. This early experience solidified my commitment to music education and ignited my enthusiasm for nurturing musical talent.
Throughout college, I immersed myself in piano pedagogy courses, exploring diverse teaching methodologies and honing my skills through ensemble performances and accompaniments. These experiences not only enriched my understanding of musical instruction but also fueled my desire to share the joy of music with others.
After graduating, I embarked on a career teaching both general music and private piano lessons across Hong Kong, the United States, and Canada, working with students of all ages and backgrounds. My dedication to continuous learning and growth in piano performance led me to successfully complete the RCM Level 10, further enhancing my expertise and proficiency in the art of piano.
I strongly believe that every child can learn music. It's our job as teachers to show them the way. Through this process, children not only learn to play an instrument but also to create and appreciate the profound joy that music brings.
I am a music lover and an RCM Certified Teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching both RCM examination and interest-based curriculum. Passionate and adaptable, I strive to cultivate musical enjoyment and appreciation in students of all ages.
Growing up in a musical family in Hong Kong, I developed a love for experimenting with different genres from the moment I began my piano journey at age five. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Elementary Education from the University of Calgary, studying under Charles Foreman and Patricia Jewell.
In my spare time, I work as a collaborative pianist, performing with soloists, ensembles, and bands. I also enjoy arranging music in my own “Popssical” style—a fusion of classical and pop—and organizing performances and stage productions for local community events.
